Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is conveniently available in conjunction with chiropractic care in one location which eliminates the need to travel to different facilities. Our physical therapist, Dr. Sheldon Shterengarts, has experience working with a wide spectrum of patients from adolescents to geriatrics as well as treating orthopedic, neurological, post-surgical, sports-related and personal injuries. Dr. Emery and Dr. Shterengarts work together to coordinate a personalized care plan that is best for your condition.

Corrective Exercises

We teach our patients special "blueprint" exercises to help strengthen and correct their own unique problem. These exercises can be performed in the comfort of your own home and can improve the effectiveness of your spinal correction. In addition to skeletal misalignment, muscles and connective tissues can be out of place or strained by improper alignment and use. Specific exercises and stretches can help your body stay in balance and in health.

Lifestyle Advice

We often find it helpful to "coach" our patients on certain activities they should avoid or do differently to avoid aggravating their particular health challenge. Our goal is to help every patient achieve a fulfilling and happy lifestyle full of the activities they enjoy most. We recognize that each patient is a whole person, and helping them reach true health and wellness is a collaborate effort between our professionals and our patients.

What is Chiropractic Treatment?

.

Chiropractic is the science that is concerned with the relationship between structure, primarily the spine, and function, primarily the nervous system, of the human body. The relationship between the two may affect the restoration and perservation of health.

Chiropractors use spinal manipulation (adjustments) to treat patients. Spinal manipulation is thousands of years old but has been refined to an art by the chiropractic profession.

The medical definition of health is “the optimum physical, social, and mental well being and not merely the absence of disease” (Dorland’s). Therefore, you can be ill and not have symptoms as is evidenced by someone with high blood pressure. Your body can have nerve pressure or irritation that will produce subclinical (unnoticed) problems. This means that your body is not working at peak efficiency but you are not aware of it…yet! By eliminating nerve interference, Chiropractic care can prevent certain conditions from developing and enable the body to maintain its natural resistance formula for continuous good health. Adjustments, proper nutrition, adequate exercise, sufficient rest, good posture, and a positive mental attitude all our factors that play into one maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

METHODS OF TREATMENT

Besides adjustments, doctors of Chiropractic may use other methods of treatment. Some of these methods include:

  • Electric Muscle Stimulation (EMS)
  • Ultrasound
  • Moist heat
  • Ice
  • X-rays
  • Massage
  • Exercise Therapy
  • Neuromuscular Reeducation

OTHER SERVICES

Dr. Emery also has an affiliation with another office that offers services for physical therapy, acupuncture, etc... that he can refer patients to. He works with an orthopedic and sports massage therapist that can come to the office by appointment.
